As I sit watching a little of the 2018 NBA All Star game, I can't help but notice the advanced skill set of the players invloved and what the motivating factor to advance a particular skill of set of skills. I look at Steph Curry and can't help but notice how fluid his jump shot is or Paul George and his All-around skill set or Russell Westbrook's quickness. I can recall hearing a story about an Indiana Hoosier player from back in the day by the name of Damon Bailey and how a story circulated that his father wouldn't by him a new pair of basketball shoes until he could dunk. Not sure how true the story is but! How's that for motivation? Some of the players I've heard their stories others I haven't. For some the motivation was to provide a better life for their family and for others it was continuing to work hard because of constantly being overlooked. It's awesome how all of the players met at the same destination...the all-star game
Towards the end of the workday this past week I overheard the talk in the open area outside my door was in regards the tragedy which occurred at the school in Florida. When initially hearing about the situation my thoughts immediately went to my 2 daughters who attend school in Florida so my attention was on the location ...etc. As a parent, I can understand the anxiety of such a situation as it is not something you want to deal with and also not be the parent of a child that initiates such a situation. Back to my office mates and it was mainly the usual type of talk after hearing details. The lingering question was what motivated that child to do this? All of my office mates seemed to chime in. I wonder what could have done to motivate this child down a different path. I have been through a divorce and it can be a tough road to go down. I can recall members I worked in the military get in trouble early in their career and begin a downward spiral whereas others have motivating factors which help them get back on a positive track.
